Hiding behind a mask

Many of us go through life wearing a mask, speaking figuratively. We put on a mask (we create a persona that is different to who we truly are), and become what we imagine someone else thinks we should be, rather than who we truly are. In most cases this is to hide our fears, stresses, failures, disappointments, or past hurt. Many of us get lost in this process at some stage in our life journey, we lose the real connection to living with purpose and loving life and all that is has to offer (there is a lot to find interesting, to learn, discover, and genuinely explore when we are being our ‘selves’). There is no such thing as perfect, so stop trying to be. Your imperfections truly make you ‘YOU’, and each one of us is unique – we are made to be different to one another. Consciously decide to take control of your life and live a self-empowered life. Personal empowerment is part of our ongoing personal development.

Life doesn’t come with a manual, there is not a plan on how to live your life, so rather than trying to make it something that it isn’t and escape it, recognize that you can find ways to make your life more fulfilling. The first step in making this a reality is ‘CHOICE’. It takes courage and determination to be a better version of yourself, and it’s a continuous effort – we never stop learning and growing. Always choose to be you and embrace your-self with self-love, truth and authenticity, and when you do, your pressures, fears and doubts, and feelings of inadequacies will diminish. With the real you, comes confidence: think, feel and act positively, and you will understand that you are meant to be wherever you are right now in your life – this is a life lesson.

At some point in this life experience, we realise that wearing a mask is ‘not for us’ – this is a natural learning curve in our own evolution. Self-discovery, learning about yourself, is a personal journey, and each one of us will experience different growing pains and pleasures.

The mind-body connection is real, and being authentic is also an important step in learning to heal. Being accepted is important, but the most significant form of acceptance is accepting your ‘self’. Unconditionally valuing who you are and believing in yourself is the most important lesson you can learn in the un-masking transformation in your life. Rise to the challenge. Care enough about yourself to let go of who you are not, and embrace who you really are – love and accept yourself, and bring peace and calm to your life.

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself." - George Bernard Shaw

Creation (i.e. transformation) begins when we live authentically - don’t be afraid to be authentic. Being genuine is knowing who you are and what you truly want, and courageous enough to know that you can be who you want to be – so be a brilliant mind with a purpose.

Stop hiding behind a mask. We are all meant to shine.
