Lessons from nature

Nature tries to teach us lessons in our own lives. Its power flows through our lives.

For every season, there is a reason. All good things come in time. Seasons have an enormous influence on vegetation and plant growth and the human senses.

Seasonal conditions are caused by the rotation of the Earth around the sun. Earth's multiple motions, spinning on its axis and orbiting the sun, are the influences that create day and night and the changing seasons. The Earth’s climate is a solar powered system. Because the Earth is a sphere, the sun does not heat it evenly. The atmosphere and the ocean continuously work to redistribute solar heat on Earth through convection (when currents within the Earth move), rainfall, winds, evaporation of surface water, and ocean circulation (as the ocean absorbs and stores energy from the sun).

Autumn is a period of transition between summer and winter and brings chillier temperatures and changes in daylight. It is the end of the growing season. Due to the shorter days, during autumn is when the phenomenon of the turning of the leaves occurs (leaves change colour, eventually turning brown and dry, then fall to the ground).

Winter, although typically cold with very low temperatures and with little daylight, helps plants to grow strong. Seeds wait to flourish. Nature in the winter season is sleeping. Plants and trees relax and prepare for the next season.

Spring brings new birth in flora and fauna. Days start to get longer, and with warm temperatures and rain, plants sprout, leaves unfurl, flowers bloom and insects start to buzz. It’s a colourful canvas.

Summer is the flourishing season. Temperatures get warmer as the sun is more active, and everything in nature - plants and animals - gets more energy and nutrition to support life, breeding and feeding. Wherever you go, there is sunshine. Longer and warmer days (shorter nights) give life to plants and trees bearing fruits and blooming flower gardens. Nature erupts with life during summer - summer and the natural world is buzzing with life.

Embrace the nature around you to renew and restore energy in yourself. Make time for yourself; breathe in and enjoy the quality of nature, feel the wind as you run through a forest, make time to catch a sunset or sunrise, have a philosophical experience as you gaze at the stars, plunge into the refreshing coolness of the ocean, take an invigorating shower in a waterfall, watch birds playing in trees, or simply feel the lush textures of grass.

There is beauty in simplicity. Enjoy the simple and natural things in our environment. Be energized.
